This damage disrupts their life cycles, preventing them from multiplying. The now-sterilized water is returned to the aquarium, resulting in clearer water and a healthier environment for fish. While beneficial for controlling algae and disease, it should be noted that the UV light primarily targets free-floating organisms and does not harm beneficial bacteria living within the filter media or substrate.
